Free-Rider Friday Keeps Getting Better!
We had a great show this week and it seemed like one hour just wasn’t quite enough.
Here are Ed’s topics from Free-Rider Friday:
Ed was a guest on a video call with Peter Block celebrating the 40th anniversary of Peter’s book, Flawless Consulting. Here are some of the memorable things that Peter has said:
That tighter surveillance leads to better outcomes is a myth.
“I’ve heard this before,” is another form of resistance. So is, “Fine.”
It’s very colonial to say “here’s what you’re going to leave with.”
The desire for speed reveals the belief that depth is not possible.
Time is never an issue, it is commitment. If your bosses boss (or best customer) calls and asks if you ‘have a minute’ the answer is, “Yes, I was just here waiting for you to call.”
“Busy” is always code for “anxious.”
New great question, “If you have any doubts about me, what would they be?”
Consultants confront people with their choices (leaders confront people with their freedom).
If you only do things that are predictable, you will never change anything.
We can’t change the past, we don’t know the future, and yet we are rarely ever fully present.
This is a link to the video conference call. Check out Ed’s comments around the 26-minute mark.
Ed presented a set of KPIs at the Intaact Conference on CAS (Client Accounting Service). Here is the summary slide for reference.
In Canadian election news, the Conservatives won the popular vote but lost the election.
